Surgery has been cancelled
I had an UGI yesterday and it showed that my esophagus is inflamed from acid reflux. The only symptom I’ve had is throat clearing, which until yesterday I didn’t even know was a symptom. The nurse just called to say my surgeon wants to cancel the surgery and have me come in and talk about my options. I'm afraid they're going to say bypass or nothing.
Has anyone had acid reflux prior to banding?

No, but another OH member, Alyssa, had suffered severe reflux before banding and although she lost a lot of weight with her band, she finally revised to RNY because of the reflux.
If I couldn't do the band, I would seriously consider VSG instead. But I don't know how VSG works in reflux patients. I'm sure they could tell you over on the VSG forum.

Oh my gosh....I'm about 5 months out....and have developed over the course of time and annoying need to clear my throat. It usually happens first thing in the morning and then later in the afternoon. It's not painful, I'm not getting stuck on anything. ..it's just mildly annoying, .but, this has me alarmed. What are the other symptoms of a problem with your esophogus. How do you eliminate acid reflux...I've never had that...wouldn't even know what it feels like. I don't feel like I'm too tight at all...can I take care of this myself? Where can I go for more information on this? Thanks for any and all replies
The best place to go for information is your surgeon.
There are meds for reflux that many people find effective. Midwesterngirl mentioned one, and I believe there are others.

Hi.....about 4 weeks before my surgery, my surgeon decided to send me for an endoscopy to check out my esophagus. The results were that my esophagus was inflamed due to acid reflux (the gastroenterologist took a couple of biopsies of the inflamed tissue to be sure what was going on). The official diagnosis was "esophagitis" due to acid reflux. He put me on Nexium.
My surgeon looked at the results about 5 days before my surgery date and said "no problem". Surgery occurred on the originally scheduled date.
Have no idea if this situation is the same as yours, but wanted you to know what happened in my case.
Good luck,
BB
