who did you tell?

Hi, Denise......I love reading about the choices people have made about whether or not to talk about their surgery.  Everyone's story is different.  I chose to tell my husband and my personal trainer, who is also a good friend.  Chose not to tell any of my family members.  They've seen me try so hard over the years and end up failing every time by regaining everything I've lost and adding even more.  I didn't want them to see this as just another effort that was doomed to failure.  I did tell one coworker who had the surgery a year ago, and 2 friends who are seriously contemplating having the surgery.  So, I get to talk about how things are going with several people who are very understanding and supportive.

I told my boss and my admin. asst. at work that I was having abdominal surgery......I'm only one month out, but when I start losing more weight, they may figure out what kind of abdominal surgery I had, and if they do, that's okay.  I had surgery on a Friday and went back to work the following Thursday......Really should have stayed off the entire week but kept telling myself that I wasn't going to let a little thing like a 30-minute outpatient procedure keep me down!  Wrong way to look at it........

Good luck with everything......

I told all of my close friends and family! I also told my boss. I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work after a week off! At first I was really quiet and didn't want to tell anyone about it. i eventually was so excited i told all my friends. They have all been very supportive. I'm not ashamed of this so i think since i'm okay with it they are too! :)

I told everyone.  I am self employed and even told my clients. I told them months before I had the surgery. I had the surgery last Monday and went back to work Wednesday evening and then Thursday morning. I worked all this week. It is a personal decision who to tell, but I am just a very open person so I've shared with everyone.  I've received a ton of support. I've heard a few tell me I don't weigh enough to have it done. I've heard success stories and not so succesful stories (not about lapband though). None of my family or friends knew anyone with lapband.

I  told no one, not even my immediate family.  It is the best decision I ever made.  I don't have the "food police" checking out everything I eat.

I'am still pre-op but I have chosen not  to tell anyone..except for my imediate family..actually my dad doesent even know..(but I will tell him)...the reason I didnt telly any of my co-workers is becuase in all honesty they dont care..and I dont need the added pressure of them watching me eat (or me thinking there watching me eat) or the added pressure of them keeping an eye on how much skinnier or how much UNskinnier I look. In the rush of excitment of some of my recent nsvs ive been pretty close to sharing with my cubicle partner..but I think to myself once I tell I can never UNtell. So thats my thought on that.

Best of luck to you!

I tell everybody in the world and am glad I do because just this week a sweet little nurse I see a couple of times a year asked how I'd lost weight. When I told her she said she'd been interested but didn't know anything about it, so I told her I'd drop by some info and of course I'll send her here to see what we have to say. If I can help just one other person regain their life I'm more than happy to sing the lap band song to the world!

So far, my hubby knows.  I haven't even said anything to my kids or either of our parents.  I don't think I'll be able to pull it off without telling my kiddos, but I think that is as far as I want to go.  I am a private person anyway and people always tend to have a negative story to tell.  As far as work goes, I have a sit down desk job, but it's my business so if i'm not telling my employees that I am having this done, then I need to be at work.   Hubby and I work together so we may take a 4 day weekend if I can get scheduled on a Thursday.  Hopefully, I can make it back on Monday.

I am still pre-op also.  I anticipate a surgery date in Sept.  I haven't told anyone except my hubby, mom and sister's, and hubby's mom.  I don't care if people happen to find out but I just didn't want to broadcast it to everyone I know.  Like someone posted earlier, I don't need people watching everything I eat and every move I make and talking about me behind my back.

Wow!  When I have been as successful as you, I may tell a few more people myself.
