who did you tell?
I only missed 2 days of work. I had surgery on friday and went back to work the following tuesday.
Everyone I know, knows that I had surgery. I wanted to tell people so that it would help me stay on track. I am lucky that I work with people that are supportive of me.
It is a decision that everyone must make on their own whether or not to tell people. There is no right or wrong answer. It is what works best for you. If you do chose to tell, just tell those that will be supportive.
Good Luck!

I work in a large elementary school and even though I like everyone there I didn't want to tell everyone. If they found out - that was ok but I only told the ladies I work with in the office and the principal.
I was off for a month. I asked to be released after 2 weeks but the surgeon put a 5 lb. weight limit until I had been 1 month out. However, the school district said for insurance reasons I could not return until I was placed back on full duty. Bummer in a way (money) but I couldn't do anything about it. But I did feel great and was very ready to go back in the first 2 weeks. Just felt a little tired.
Oh, by the way I heard that most of the teachers assumed that I had knee surgery because of past surgeries and frequent problems with my knees.
Good luck and congrats in advance. I LOVE MY BAND !! I'M SURE YOU WILL TOO !!

My immediate family and two best friends know. But I didn't tell my co-workers or people I'm not VERY close to. I don't feel like the entire world needs to know. It's kind of personal to me. I just took a few vacation days for surgery but let everyone think it was just vacation. Maybe someday I'll "come out of the closet," but not yet.
I've been very open about it with my family and friends. I told some of my closer co-workers as well. All of them have been supportive of me, and have noticed a big change in my confidence.
Otherwise, I won't talk about it with people unless there is a good reason to.
Now dating again...that's going to be interesting. ;)

Hi Denise,
My husband, daughter & son knew. I am a very private person any way, and have seen some WLS failures where I work. I told only very close friends (3 of them). I slowly told close associates. I told my mother after I had it (to surprise her, she was thrilled). And about 3 months ago I told a few of my co workers that work in the same building with me.
My boss began making insinuations to another person about what type of surgery I was having. She has repeated personal things in the past about other things about other coworkers (fr; private family matters to plastic surgery).
So when it was brought to my attention (that very same day), I spoke to her privately, and told her that only 2 people knew and if I heard any other mutterings I had no problem going to administration. I work for a hospital and we are required to sign off on following HIPA. But it still happens, just not with me! She was actually thrown back by it and when I came back to work, she wanted to immediately say something about how well I was losing, but, hesitated after our conversation. She is fine with me, we have moved beyond the ackwardness, and she compliments my dedication to my exercising (as I use my break time to excercise and work out like crazy). * When my fellow co workers ask what I am doing, I say, "Im working out like crazy and watching what I eat". Which is true.
I shared my lapband with 2 of my parents (I'm a Preschool teacher), who are heavy and asked what I was doing. I finally told them. Right now 1 parent is in the process of having it done, the other began the process but her situation at home was changing so she is waiting until things calm down.
Time out from work? I took 3 weeks so I wouldn't have to go through my post op diet at work and because I work with pre-schoolers (some of them need to be picked up, and it is very physical getting up and down etc...). I could've come back sooner, but I knew the type of help I would recieve would not be consisitent.
Good luck,

Exercise is a NECESSITY
I told my hubby, a few friends, and my side of the family. Some people do know that I have had surgery and they seem to be respecting my privacy. I have 2 weeks for recovery but that is just because I quit one job and will be starting another next week. If you don't want to tell anybody then don't. Remember it's up to you. My husband already knows not to tell anyone without my permission.
I am pre op at this time, but almost to the point where the surgery will be in the near future. I am a very open person and most of my co workers know, my family..(a big one), and quite a few friends. I know several women that have had some type of WLS, and have been fortunate to have a few brains to pick along the way. There are some ppl that keep it private. Do what you feel comfortable with. There is no right or wrong. Your way is the right way. Sherry
I was not going to tell anyone except my close family. I have since changed my mind. I have selectivly told several other people. Truthfully I was loosing wieght for about 9 months prior to the surgery and most people seem to be more concerned that I am loosing too fast or my goal to too much I just reassure them that I am wokring with a doctor and dietian, which is also true. I have told several people I trust at work and they have been abig support, espically on tough days. Just be assured that as long as you have a support system that works for you, your decision will be the right one.
