Bump in the Road and I am scared....

I truly don't know what to think...  I went this morning for the pre-op stuff - had an upper GI done and as I was coming home this afternoon, the surgeon's office called and said that there was some abnormal results of the upper GI.  The doc wants to do an endoscopy in the morning - maybe take some biopsies - then hopefully proceed on with the band.  They called it inflammation.

I have had no pain, no excessive burping, never nausea or vomiting.  My first appt, they check for the bacteria H Pylori.  I have had that before and it was horrible - but the test they do was negative.

I have looked online and inflammation of the stomach lining - gastritis - can be caused by excessive use of ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories - NOT - haven't used any in over 2 years.  Smoking - NOT - never have smoked.  Alcohol - NOT - never been big to drink and probably haven't had a drink in over 2 years.
And online - it says that it could be the first signs of stomach cancer.

Needless to say I am scared - nervous enough about having surgery tomorrow and now more worried.  I could wake up without the band.  Even though the NP said that Dr. Hata felt comfortable in proceeding with the band.  But the radiologist recommends an EGD....

Has anyone else dealt with this type of thing??

Hi Sheilia, i don't know anything about the inflamation, but will send a prayer up that all will be well with you and your band surgery will be perfect. Good luck and God bless.

Hi Shelia, sometimes some surgeons will order EGD's to rule out any problems. Each surgeon has their own comfort level. It will make the surgery safer for you. Good luck. Mona

Hi.....My doctor ordered an endoscopy shortly before surgery.  The gastroenterologist took a couple of biopsies during the procedure, and the lab report said that I had esophagitis (inflamation of the lining of the esophagus due to reflux).  My surgeon said "no problem" and proceeded with the lap band surgery.  Hope this will be the same for you!

Thanks to all that have responded.  I have sat here most of the night worrying and finally decided to call the person on call for the WLS center who is an RN.  He told me that he was aware of what the radiologist said and that Dr. Hata wants to be careful.. Where the band would be place seems to be where there is some inflammation and that looking first would just be the wise things to do.

I can't say that I am necessarily at-ease now, but there is nothing that I can do about it.

I have put a few things in a bag, plan to get a shower and get to bed.  It is still fairly early here in NC, but Ihope I can sleep a few hours.  Turn my mind off....

Thanks again,
Shelia

Unfortunately, I had to delete this message due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!
