I stole this from another forum....it's a vintage lane bryant add that they found. Apparently the company has been around since the early 1900s.... which I never knew. http://images.obesityhelp.com/uploads/profile/769328/albums/ 50000/chubbies%20lane%20bryant.jpg

"Priced the same as regular sized clothes". Wish that was still true! That is hillarious. Thanks for posting that.

Dresses clear up to a size  18 1/2!!!  How things have changed! I read once that 'lane bryant' was a lady named Lena Bryant....she made patterns and sewed dresses in her home for chubby ladies in her neighborhood.  Someone encouraged her to go to the bank and get a loan and go into business.....she was just a widowed housewife, no business experience......when she signed the loan papers, she was so nervous she misspelled her own name....Lena was spelled Lane and nobody noticed it for a while - when they did, her business advisors told her she had to use the Lane for business purposes.

I love it, especially how they refered to plus-size people as "chubby." Kind of reminds of this plus-size clothing store that I have seen near my office in The Bronx called Puppies. Their moto is "Eat and get chubby then go to Puppies." LOL!! By the way, here is the Wikipedia entry on the history of Lane Bryant for those who are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lane_Bryant. Megan

Sadly, like Vicki I well remember the LB chubby sizes from my youth. I'm so glad chubby won't be describing me from now on.

My mother sewed most of my clothes when I was a kid, but once she took me clothes shopping in a department store for my birthday gift.  We had to go to the "Chubettes" department to find clothes that fit me.  Needless to say, the selection wasn't great. Jean

I went to Lane Bryant as a little girl! They had a "Chubby Club" and  you got a membership card and a newsletter. They had fashion shows in the store with little fat girls modeling the new dresses. (This was before girls wore pants much). Then they FED us cookies, ice cream and cake! Can you believe it! I have very strong memories of the store and the special department for little (chubby) girls. As I look back on it, it was embarrassing!
