Hello! I am in need of some serious help! I had my lap band surgery on 5/16/08 and had to complications. During recovery, I lost about 15 pounds. I have and continue to follow all diet and exercise instructions to a T. Between my post-op appointment (6/3/08) and my first fill (6/30/08) I gained 2 pounds! I have an AP large (14cc) band, and was told 1cc was put in during surgery. My first fill (on 6/30) was 6cc, for a total of 7cc's. I have very little or no restriction. Is this normal? I'm getting seriously discouraged, as I am following the nutrition requirements and exercise daily. Does something seem wrong? WHAT CAN I DO?
You are just at the beginning of your Lap Band journey grasshopper, be patient, and restriction will come!

Erosion rates are usually around 0.5 to 1%.  There is no definable life span of the band to our knowledge.

Dr Curry: I had some x-rays done of my back and hips last week. In my teens, I had a few spinal fusions for Scoliosis.  I took a crude photo of one of the x-rays and I was wondering if you could tell me what those O's and M's are surrounding my port!? They appear in all the films. I do not see my doctor to review the x-rays for 3 weeks.  I've been having a lot of port discomfort for about 2-3 weeks now so I was a little concerned. Thanks EDIT: I'M SORRY - I DON'T KNOW HOW TO POST A PICTURE HERE. HERE'S A LINK>>  http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c285/honey_creeper412/IMG_ 0680.jpg

Those look like tacks for mesh, I would say your surgeon secures the port by suturing it to mesh and then tacking the mesh down.

Hi Dr. Curry, I've got a good one for you.   last night I took my first sip of pop since surgery (1/08).  I had bad gas and took gas x for it .  Now i've got the sensation of my stomach being cold and even the skin in that same area feels cooler than the other skin around it... have you heard of anything like this?

Is it normal to have gurgling at night?  I find that if I eat too close to bed, then I am up all night with reflux, gurgling, and nightcough.   Does that mean that I am too tight?

If you have no problems when you avoid eating for 3 hours prior to bed then you are probably not too tight.  If you have gurgling and reflux regardless, then you are too tight.
