I have a question..I am scheduled for lapband June 12,  I went and had all preop done yesterday.   Everything went fine but the upper gi showed that i had a narrowed duodenum.  That is what the preop doc said , I havent heard from my doc yet to determine if my surgery is cancelled...Is this a problem that would cancel my surgery  and what exactly is this?
I probably would do a scope on you to see if this was a real finding or not.

I've never seen a band flip.  If you're talking about a port flip, we can never know exactly what causes it to flip.  I have seen re-flips but it is not common.

Hello Dr. Curry, I was wondering...I've heard many opions on this but would really appreciate yours. Is a BMI of 60 too high to have a lap band? Thanks much!

In my experience you would lose less weight with a band than a gastric bypass.  If your mobility is limited then you will probably lose a lot less with a band.  If you can exercise reasonably well then you can drive your weight loss much faster.

Good morning, Dr Curry.  Can you get TOO much protein at one time?  If you do, what are the consequences?  I have an Isopure after my AM workout it has 40 g of protein, is that too much for my body to use at once?
If you have normal kidney function you can't really get too much protein at once unless you really overdo it.  It is better though to get your protein in smaller more frequent doses in my opinion, as has been shown with diet plans being most successful to induce weight loss that utilize smaller more frequent meals.  So if you need 80gm/day taking 40gm in the morning in 40gm in the evening isn't ideal, 20+20+20+20 would be better.

Dr. Curry, I recently had the Allergen lap band surgery on 5/27/08. I have been on many boards reading the post- op diet and have not been following doctor's orders. I am less than two weeks out of surgery and have already eaten a nachos. I try to stay with soft mushy foods and chew really well. Am I doing damage and causing conditions for a slippage?

If you do not follow your surgeon's diet you are definitely putting yourself at risk for a slip.  This is the reason we have post op diets.
