Hi Dr Curry!

I haven't asked you a ? in a while, my turn!  Sorry it might be a long winded one!!   lol

I had band  placed in 3/06.  fx of lt tib/fib with screws and plates in May of 06... lost 42 lbs,  good I guess for not being as moble as I wanted lol.  Then in Oct 07 injured back,  ( catching a pt in surgery) so ended up with back surgery myself.  I was out on std till March and have only been doing pt since the middle of  March of this year.  I am only at 51 lbs lost.  I think I have lost more inches as I have gone down another size . But the scale has said the same since Dec?  Why is that?  I am beginning to feel like a failure, and getting more frustrated. I haven't gained any, just not loosing like the others!  I still eat only about a cup at meals, very little carb, drink faithfully,  could I not be doing enough protein? since I am repairing muscle should I have increased to 80 instead of 60 protein a day?  I do usually stick with only three meals a day,  if I go for 3 and 2snack, how would I break the protein up or does it matter?   Or are there really some of us this does not work or are very slow in loosing?  At what point do I think about the sleeve or is it still not covered by ins now? Thank you!! Deb

I would definitely bump your protein to 80gm/day, probably as you said in 5 small meals (or 3 meals/2 snacks however you want to call it).  Also 30 minutes of aerobic activity 3x/week.  Has to be aerobic, hit your target heart range and keep it there.  I wouldn't even begin to think about the sleeve yet.

Thank you Dr Curry for answering.  I had not thought about the sleeve, but my Dr mentioned it last month at my check up.  He said he knew I had been very good about being compliant,  it is just had a rough few years ! lol  I like you kind of think it may be the protein and change the exercise.  He only believes in ony three meals a day. For some it may work , evidentelly not me ..... Now i AM BEGINNING TO BEAT MYSELF UP AT ALMOST BEING A FAILURE,  but have never gained, just not loosing like everyone else.... Untill he said something about the sleeve....  thanks again

Hello Dr. Curry,   I am having skin pigment changes.   Could this be to my decrease in protein in take?  I do not take and protein supplements.    Thanks

Hi Dr. Curry, I am very new to this.  I am looking into having the lap band surgery.  I go to my first seminar June 12th.  I have a BMI  of 39.8.  I have health issues ( diabetesII, HTN, asthma).  I hope i make a good candidate for the surgery.  The  question i have for you is that I do Karate twice a week.  I truly love it.  Will I be able to continue this after lap band surgery?  I can get a chest protector to wear during sparring (fighting).  I was told by someone who is not a professional, nor had any surgery done for weight loss, that i could not do Karate because of the possibility of damaging the port.   Please advise and thank you for being there to answer our millions of questions.

I have 3 band patients who do martial arts, no problem whatsoever.  Kick some butt for me!

Dr.Curry, If you had to choose between Allergan or J&J Realize band which would you choose and why? I am trying to decide which one I want and am having a hard time finding a way to compare the two. Thanks!
