Anyone ever lost it all then gained it all back with the band in?

I'm just curious, because I don't think I've ever personally seen this on the board. Has anyone ever lost the majority or all of thier weight with the band, then gained it all back by simply eating around it? I'm not talking about people who've had complications, strange weight gaining medications, lost with no fill, unfills, or removals. I mean people who have no issues with thier band. People who have great restriction...      I just think it's interesting that I've never, that I can recall, seen anyone get to goal and then regain thier weight unless they had complications. Maybe I'm just missing those posts???      I think that's pretty cool...and it says a lot about how the band helps you maintain! I know for me when I gain a few pounds my band starts getting tighter. There's no way I could gain all my weight back without lots of unfill! I like that!!! When I get jealous of the other WLS people losing so fast I just remember this and it makes me feel much better! I'm very interested to hear the replies too. I only hope if it has happened to someone they don't feel bad to post about it. I surely don't mean to oust anyone and make them feel ashamed. I'm not one of those people who tisks someone for "Not following the rules...or failing the band" I always imagine that anyone else's success or failure story could just as easily be my own!

I have a friend at work who has eaten his way around his. He lost 50lbs pretty quick off the draw and then never went in for a fill, now 2 years later about 30 of it is back on. He has some restriction because he can't just eat anything, but he dose the "tricks" to go around it like drinking a soda just before lunch and then drinking all the way through the meal. Now that I've got mine installed he wants to get his filled, I hope he dose but I fear with the bad habbits he's come up with it might not help much.

Yeah...I've seen plenty of stories like that. I'm talking about people like Tami, or Bette, or Sandy. People who've gotton to goal and then just lost control and gained it all back. Not because of fills, or complications, just from slipping back to old ways. I think that if you make it that far with the band it's VERY hard to "unlearn" all of the new habits. Ya know? I never see any people who are board regulars, very successful who've gotten to goal then gained it all back...

I had a conversation with the man who delivered my CPAP machine and told him I was getting ready for lapband surgery.  He told me he had had it himself lost over 150 lbs. then had some life issues and regained 150 lbs. back.  It made me quite nervous to say the least.  Also, my neighbor had the surgery exactly one year to the day of my surgery and she has gained weight.  Again, she had quite a few life issues this past year.  She tried to talk me out of my surgery right before I had it.  I know that I am a strong determined woman when I make up my mind to do something, it will be done.  That is why I came into the LB Forum to get some insight and be around success stories.  Success breeds success!  I am enjoying that pressure I get in my chest telling me enough already.  It is like carrying an alarm clock for eating control.

Candi, Happy Sunday to you :) I have yet to have the lap band, I am waiting on insurance approval/ a surgery date right now. I have been researching this so much, and I have read posts from people who said they had gained weight back with the band. I am not sure if that is attributed to thier non-compliance and food choices etc, or other reasons (they did not indicate) but that is what I have read. As you said, they have gone on to have the band removed and the bypass done or MGB as was written, and been successful. I have also read where people who initially had the bypass, did well but they gain it back (that was attributed to overeating/carbonated drinks stretching the pouch according to thier own admission) and then had the band placed after the bypass. I am not sure my info helps, and I know I am not a bandster yet :), but my interpretation of the band is that it is my tool to assist me in this weight loss journey, and that if I do lose, and then gain, that is why I have the band, for fills etc, to help me maintain goal weight (when I get there of course).

A friend of mine gained 1/2 her weight back on the band which was only 35lbs.  She hasn't gone for fills when she knows she needs to.  The relearning after a fill always frustrates her--hello, this is how you lose!  Anyway, no fault to her band as it's in perfect working order, she's just not fully commited like she was in the beginning of the process.  The band serves you how you want it to--most of the time :)

Yeah...but I'm still waiting to hear from someone who got to goal and gained it all back due to eating around restriction only. : ) My point is that if I posted this on the RNY board...there would be more people who made it to goal, but also many posts from people gaining it back. It's a gamble with either surgery...neither is better. Just different outcomes I guess. Most of our negative posts are from people struggling to get to goal. Many over there are people whove gotten to goal but are regaining. Having a good Sunday beautiful Stella? Did you go outside yesterday? You'd be so proud of me...right after you and I spoke I went to the park!

Oh she got to goal and stayed there for about a year.  She owns 3 companies, married, big demanding fam is in a constant state of stress (she keeps this stress level high) which causes her band to tighten--you know the drill.  Anyway, because of her lifestyle she keeps her band loose and then of course she can and will eat more than she should to lose or even maintain. Good for you and getting to the park for a walk!  I did 30 min on my bike and a 30 min hill walk in our neighborhood---my thighs are going to get thin and toned!  My new mantra :)
