I got my Body Bugg!
Congrats!! I LOVE mine!! Aside from my surgery, it's the best money that I have spent in my weight loss journey. I got mine from an actual 24 hour fitness gym for $219 so you may want to try there if you are looking for a deal. Plus you don't have to wait for it to come in the mail. :)
Also, did you know that you don't have to wait until night to download it? I download mine all throughout the day so that I can adjust my activity as necessary. If I'm not going to hit my goals, I jump back on the elliptical to make sure that I do!! Also, you don't have to "plug it in". Mine downloads wirelessly!
ok, thats cool! I was wondering if you could check in during the day. Since I just got it, I still have alot to learn. Also, maybe you know...If I take it off to shower for example and then put it back on, it doesnt think of it as a new day does it? In other words how does it separate one day from the next. Also if I just plug the little round unit in and set it by the computer, then I dont even have to take the armband off?
By the way, anyone interested, if you get it thru eBay make sure the person selling it gives you their user name and password as part of the deal, otherwise you will have to pay to get an account.
I got mine thru 24 hr. fitness. My God daughter is a personal trainer there.
Cant wait to work with it more!
When you take it off to take a shower, it will just turn off for the time being. If you have it off for more than 15 minutes, the next time you download, it will ask you what you were doing during that time and it will estimate your calorie burn. I only know this from reading the instructions and your question made me realize that I have never had it off for more than 15 minutes since the first time I put it on! That's how obsessed with it I am. I think it keeps track of time with the computer inside, etc.
To connect wirelessly, yes just plug in the little round thing to the usb and then you can download your calories without removing your band.
I will be interested to see if it will keep me from plateauing or what will happen when I have pms, etc. So far, my weight just keeps on dropping but without it, I would have stalled a few times because there were days when I thought I had enough physical activity but I didn't and without the bodybugg, I would have just sat on my butt the rest of the day and I wouldn't have burned enough for my goal.
The difference with the bodybugg and other devices such as the biotrainer is that the bodybugg actually measures your body heat output and other things to determine your calorie burn. One of the big complaints with the biotrainer is that it doesn't count much calorie burn when you are doing activities with your arms, etc. I wanted something that had a high level of accuracy because that's the point of it all. I can get a guesstimate of my burn from every fitness program on the market. I need to know my true calorie burn and bodybugg seems to be doing that.
My main complaint with it right now is that I want running tallies of not only my defecit for each day for the week or for the month. So for instance, say one day I work really hard and I have a huge defecit and another day I don't work as hard and maybe I eat a little more, in reality it would all balance out. The software only tracks day by day and while you can look back in the history and add everything up and figure it out yourself (and I will probably create a spreadsheet to keep track of this), I really think it should keep track of your calorie bank over time as well.
try selecting a time window instead of a particular day (or "the last 30 days") for your time view. if you click on "since my last measurement" or whatever, you should be able to see your average calorie intake, your average calorie burn, and your average calorie deficit during that time period, based either on your food log or on your measurement changes. what i think is most interesting is how this illustrates my underestimation of my food intake -- scary!
best,
sarah
http://mystore.24hourfitness.com/category.php?cat=11 I used the above website to get mine. It was alot more expensive on the bodybugg website. I wish there was a 24 hour fitness near me--there's not one w/ in 75 miles. It would have been great to get it the same day instead of waiting impatiently for the UPS man!!

I looked into the Body Bugg but it was alot of money. I bought a biotrainer for $59 and now they offer a 10% discount for WLS patients. They are similar. The biotrainer counts the calories you burn all day and has a display so you know how you're doing. The body bugg doesn't. You can pay $179 more for a watch that works with the body bugg. Otherwise, you wear it all day and then at the end of the day you upload it to your PC. I prefer to see how I am doing during the day and find ways to burn more calories. The BioTrainer doesn't connect to a computer but you plug 1 number each day into their website (if you pay for that service ... $9.99/mo) and it will figure out how much weight you'll lose based on calories burned, your body profile (BMR) and daily calorie intake.
Overall, I really like the biotrainer. It works pretty well and it motivates me to burn more calories. Whatever you use, you should use something to keep track of the calories you burn. I like the biotrainer because I ride an exercise bike and do ab crunches. A pedometer wouldn't keep track of that.
I do subscribe to the monitoring service but you don't have to. It's 9.95 and it lets me put in the food I eat and gives a scorecard. I have my issues with it like all these programs. IT doesn't let me force the # of calories I am aiming for each day but they are rolling out a new version of their online service and it will have updates to it. I like that it tracks your vitamin & minerals too.
This is a demo of their online menu program. It's not as slick as fitday (yet) but... I have sent them lots of emails with suggestions and they are very open to modifying the system to meet the needs of the WLS community.
