How did the surgery go? Great I hope :) I am scheduled for the bypass Weds and already have an enlarged liver so I'm kind of nervous about that .

Hi guys...I am on my 3rd day of my liquid diet and I am dying. I cant stand sweet things and all I am able to drink is sweet. The only savory thing I get is broth! How bad is it if i sneek in a cucumber or tomato? Ughhhh I emailed my Nut and am waiting to find out what I can have as a cheat food. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate them.

I only had to do 3 days and I cheated with a few bites of something soft, though I can't remember what the hell it was. Anyways, losing weight will help to shrink your liver, but what your surgeon is really looking for here is having a less " slimy liver " to work with, and the best thing you can do to help de-slime that sucker is to not eat any carbs.

I don't believe in the " Starve yourself before surgery crap ", because you end up going into and coming out of surgery malnourished, and your body should go into any kind of surgery strong and nourished, not lacking proper nutrition.

I am 5 days till surgery and have cheated. I tried so hard, did VERY well first week, but the weekend and this week has been tough. I have tried every shake and protein powder and they make me gag.  I have been drinking the shakes during the day and eating a small chicken breast and salad at nite. Am I doomed??

I'm not sure why we're laughing.

The preop instructions are usually put in place for good reason. You really should do your best to follow the plan set for you by your surgeon.  There are people who will say that if you're not "compliant," there's a higher chance of failure, but just choosing the band at this point is pretty much dooming yourself to repeat surgeries and complications.

Yeah, I find that most people don't really care to hear the truth. It's only a year or two down the road that they realize that the people who have been through hell with the band were actually doing them a favor in trying to help others avoid it.

PS. if you click on the "latest posts" of the original poster, you'll see that they've had severe band complications. This thread is from 2008.

Thank you for your candidness, however the sleeve and bypass are not options for me. I wish you well.
