I got it from time-to-time.  I was given a prescription anti-fungal cream to help.  Go to a dermatologist (or have your PCP refer you to someone).  It can really help your problem!

Yep boils are staph infection I had them almost every month at TOM until I hit menopause. I don't know if it was hormonal or just that my resistance was maybe weaker then. However to deal with them once you have them there is an over the counter ointment called Boil Ease that will help bring it to a head and break. If they get real bad like mine often did, I had to get them lanced and go on anitbiotics to take care of the staph infection. You have my sympathy, boils are a total pain.

Thanks everyone that answered. I read on WebMD that they can be caused by bacteria, clogged folicles, and rubbing skin. Man, this thing hurts.  Thanks again all!

I was getting them really bad in 2005 and part of 2006.  I could play connect the dots on my torso, very painful.  Prior to banding I decided to try Noxzema antibacterial body wash because my band doctor said if I had any boils or skin infections he wouldn't do the surgery. I also went to a dermatologist who said that soaking in a hot tub would help.  Trouble was I was too large to soak in my tiny tub!  So anyway, I have figured out that I cannot use anything else but this Noxzema!  I ran out and had to use another body wash I had and I've come down with 2 boils!   I have never been sensitive to soap until the last couple years, so maybe the antibacterial wash would help?  They are so bad, ugly and nasty...I know! Good luck.

This might be TMI but I would get very painful boils on my kitty.  I wouldnt get them often but a couple years ago I had a couple back to back and well me being paranoid took myself to the gyno to make sure it wasnt something else.  What my gyno told me was cause of my weight and sweating that the hair folicales and all that get clogged.  Told me to only wear underware when I needed to.  If I was home then dont wear underware and wear a cloth skirt or something really loose so the air could flow through.  Dont know if this is the type of info you are looking for but Ohhhh how painful they can be.   Barbara

My DH and I use plain cornstarch at the first sign of a boil and it works pretty good at keeping it dry and drying it out. Plus it's silky on your skin. But you have to catch it at the first signs of one. Last year my DH had one at the top of his butt crack and we couldn't see it so we didn't know what it was; just that he was in a lot of pain. We went to everybody- PCP, uro, endo, and finally a proctologist who had the right equipment to see and treat the problem. DH was off from work for two weeks before we went to the proc. He gave him some antibiotics and told him to keep it dry. We dried it with a blowdryer on low heat everyday but it came back about two weeks later and he had to have surgery on it because it had gotten worse.  A couple months ago I posted that a lump had developed on my left breast and I thought I had cancer. Went to my PCP every month for my supervised diet and would ask him about it everytime and they didn't think it was anything serious, prescribed me an antibiotic, sent me home. I thought they were retarded and went to my gyno about it. He told me that it wasn't cancer and that I sweat there which infects the glands causing a boil to develop. He prescribed some type of cream and sent me on my way. I was soooooo relieved!! I hate boils!!! Try the cornstarch, it works!!

I get boils that are caused by a skin condition called Hidradenitis Largely unrelated to weight, but can be exacerbated by being overweight.  My doctor has me use an antibacterial cleanser in the shower called hibicleanse, which I get at walgreens.  I also have MRSA and CMV which makes me more susceptible to getting boils or abcesses on my body. The last abcess I got became horribly infected and caused me to have to get IV antibiotics twice a day for 3 weeks, so keeping bacteria out of the "hot button" areas is really important to me.  Using a good antibacterial cleanser and a medicated powder can help a lot!  Just be sure not to use the powder on any open areas of your skin.

Yep I agree with the last post.  If you are getting these boils...more then one, it is called Hydroadenitis Suppurative.  I have been fighting this since I was 19 (when I wasn't overweight), it was really bad all through my 20's (I was really stressed out with school), and the docs told me that it would probably clear up when I go through menopause.  WTH??? I get them in my groin area,(yes, my kitty too), under my arms, around my buttocks and under my boobs.  Knock on wood, they have really slowed down in the last year.  My worse ones were about a little bigger then a quarter, then I would hav to put a hot compress on it, then it would start to open (let me tell you, I can't believe the stuff that comes out).  The one thing you do NOT want to do is try to open it up by squeezing....the doc said that you could actually make them implode and then you have a whole other "tunnel" to another massive boil.  sorry this is so much info....I am really surprised how many people have responded to your post!!! good luck.....BTW, my twin sister has them too.
