Ai Yi Yi! The pain. I know that boils are caused by rubbing skin, but I thought they would stop post-op. I shower, powder, use creme's, etc. It's back. What can I do?...

I'm not sure that boils are caused by rubbing skin.  I do occasionally get boils as well, but not in places where the skin rubs!  I'd be interested in knowing how to prevent them as well.  (Aren't they a form of staph infection??  I really don't know).

Someone gave me a trick a few years ago that works well for me.  I use secret (or another gentle deodorant) anywhere that my  skin rubs.  It keeps it dry and lets the skin move freely instead of it rubbing together, causing irritation and breaking out. It's a pretty cheap alternative and it doesn't clump up like powders do.  And it doesn't dry up like lotions and creams do. Hope this helps!

Golly.. learn something new every day!!! I've been fat, and had my legs rub together since I was an infant!!!!  Now that I'm heading for surgery, I won't be able to use that tip!  um.. YAY!!! I just always wore pants, or a long leg girdle to keep my legs from rubbing.

I would recommend using a bacteria fighting cleanser in the area like Phisoderm and a loofah daily.  This will help rid of the bacteria and build up of oil around the hair follicles.  (where boils occur.)  Heat packs on them will help tremendously when they happen.  Hope you feel better soon! In sporting and athletic shoe stores there's a product called Body Glide.  It looks just like a stick of deodorant.  You put it anywhere you get friction (thighs, arm/ribcage, feet).  We used it on our trip to Disney World this past summer and pretty much didn't have blister number one until the day I wore these strappy flat sandals one evening and thought  wouldn't need it.  It turned out that I did.

I have gotten boils on and off for the past 14 years. They are caused by an infection and not rubbing skin. Sometimes they go away on thier own and sometimes I have to go to the doc and have them lanced and get an antibiotic. I do feel for you though. There is no worse pain in the world!

My son had a boil on his thigh after he came home from the hospital a couple of years ago. We went to the doc and he said it was staff. We got an antibiotic and ointment to treat it. He said it is highly contagious. Maybe what you are experiencing is just a rash????
