Gotta love Paula Deen. The best thing I ever heard her say was "I'm your cook, not your doctor". Here are some classic Paula Deen recipes I have converted to making in the crock pot. Feel free to modify any recipe to suit your dietary needs and likes.
TACO CHILI
1 lb ground beef, browned and fat drained
1 15oz can tomato sauce
1 15oz can diced tomatoes w/ green chilis
1 pkg ranch dressing mix
1 taco seasoning mix
3 cups of water
1 cup dried red beans, soaked overnight and then drained
1/2 cup dried pinto beans, soaked overnight and then drained
Garnishes: shredded cheese, diced onions, chopped olives, jalapenos, corn chips
1. Combine all ingredients and cook on low 8-10 hours on low. Serve and top with garnishes of choice
SAVANNAH GUMBO
4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1" pieces
2 cups sliced smoked sausage
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 onion, chopped
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
3 cans chicken broth
28oz can diced tomatoes
2 cups cut okra
1 tsp dried thyme
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp file powder
salt and pepper to taste
Hot cooked rice
1. Melt butter in skillet. Add flour and make a roux. Cook over medium heat until roux is a light brown.
2. Pour roux into crockpot. Add remaining ingredients (not the file powder!)and mix well.
3. Cook on low for 8 hours.
4. Add file powder and cook on low 1 hour more, or until desired consistancy.
5. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve with hot cooked rice
LOW COUNTRY BOIL
2 tsp crab boil
1 quar****er
12 small new red potatoes, unpeeled and cut in half
1 smoked sausage link, cut into six pieces
6 ears of corn on cob, cut in half
3 lbs fresh shrimp, unpeeled
Tarter sauce, butter sauce, coctail sauce for serving
1. Bring water to boil. Add crab boil and simmer 5 minutes.
2. Pour water into crock pot.
3. Add potatoes, sausage, and corn.
4. Cook on low 6 hours or until veggies are tender.
5. Add shrimp and cook 1/2 hour to 1 hour until shrimp is cooked thru.
6. Drain meat and veggies and discard cooking liquid.
7. Serve meat and veggies with sauces and salt and pepper.
* make this really easy and just pour meat and veggies onto a table covered with newspaper (after draining cooking liquid) and let people help themselves. No plates to clean up and when you are done, you can just roll the newspaper up with all the shrimp peelings and throw everything away.

Good for you! I think crock pots are so underrated.
I use mine on average, about 10 times a month. Sometimes more, sometimes less. I actually use it MORE in the summer. I can't stand to have the oven on then. And I can only serve my family so many salads before they start complaining.....lol.
