nioxin, how long?
Beth, nioxin is a pesticide - used for head lice.
There is no scientific evidence AT ALL that it helps hair grow, and I surely would not put a pesticide on my scalp unless needed for lice killing - and there are safer products anyway. You will be absorbing some of the pesticide inot your body.
You might want to go a Google "Scholar Search" to read the studes showing Nioxin doesn't do a thing for hair growth, before you spend your money here.
Here is one bit of info from a search:
• Nioxin. This perticide product is a cleanser scalp therapy and scalp serum. It contains niocidin, which inhibits demodex-produced lipase.2 However, there has never been any study that implicates demodex lipase in hair loss or that shows that hair will benefit from getting rid of mites or their lipase.3 Nioxin is based upon bionutrient actives and protectives. The primary methodology of these agents is to clean the scalp of DHT and to provide chemically enhanced hair with moisture/vitamin nourishment.
Here is a whole article about hair-regrowth products and myths. Nioxin is mentioned under "Other Hair-growth products.." as useless:
http://www.dms.moph.go.th/inderm/Journal/Cutis/2004/vol73%20 no2%20Feb/vol73%20no2%20p107.pdf
The myth that Nioxin helps has been around a long time, and is likely to continue. All we can do to counter the myths is look things up, before we decide to try them, and spend our hard-earned money.

Sandy, I respectfully disagree with you that Nioxin is a "pesticide" and not sure where you got that. It is the reason my hair has grown back nice and thick after losing it 3 mo. after surgery.
You only have to google Nioxin to get the results of it. It is for thinning hair, which a lot of us have after surgery. I wouldn't be without it. It is not for "bugs" of any kind. It is NIX that is a pesticide...certainly not Nioxin.
Where oh where do you get your information?
Respectfully,
Dee

Thanks my friend, I've been using Nioxin and the deep scalp massage for months and months now and it has done wonders for my hair. I have no idea where the misconception that it is a pesticide of all things came from. That is such bad info that it is a "pesticide" for Lord's sake. It is highly recommended for thinning hair and it does work...I'm proof of that. I use it and take Biotin and my hair had begun falling out a lot before I switched to it.

I am a beautician and was banded 2/06. I started using Nioxin 2 months before surgery and can promise you it has helped me alot.
I do believe if I hadn't been using and am still using nioxin I would hardly have any hair. I have so much new growth coming in all the time that what falls out is followed by new growth. Keep using it girl......it is awesome and I promise you it won't hurt you. Over 1/2 of my customers have used it for years. Believe me, coming from a family who has had leukemia, if it was harmful to us they would have told us and the doctors in Little Rock new everything we did. Keep using it and happy hair time
