steri strips are causing fluid filled blisters...

I think maybe I'm allergic to the steri strips.  I'm developing long blisters under the strips.    Has this happened to anyone and how did you deal with it.  I wonder if it would be safe to take benedryl? Well, let me know when you get the chance.  Thank you!

Surely you have more than steri-strips..under mine were absorbable sutures.;  It could be the sutures you are allergic too.  Steri-strips alone would not hold those incisions closed.  Perhaps you have the durabond that they are using also....I doubt it is the steri-strips. Take care, Dee

Could be the steri-strips - I am allergic to those and had the same problems.  When I removed the strips the skin began healing.
Be careful, or you may find yourself in my novel...

Thanks Dee, you are probably right... I hope there is more holding me together than the tiny strips...   I looked on the internet to see what I could find and it could be a reaction to the pulling on my skin.   If it gets worse I'll call the hospital.  I'm going to take a shower here in a bit and once I get out if there are any that need to be trimmed I'll trim them and see how I'm feeling.

Hi Katherine;  My incisions were glued and held together by steri strips.  I am also allergic to the strips, and took mine off after a few days - I am thinking maybe 4 days.  My incisions are fine now - but I couldn't have lasted with the strips much longer.

I may end up taking the strips off.  Some of the blisters are over an inch long....   I'm going to take a shower and see if they loosen at all.  I was told to keep them trimmed.   I'm on day 4 so I shouldn't fly apart if I do take the worse ones off....lol.  There is only one right now that is very painful and luckily it is a tiny incision.  The blister looks worse than the incision. Thank you.

Katherine, I took my strips off after 4 days and had no problem...there is definitely something else holding your incisions together.  If you think they are the problem it won't hurt to take them off.  I'm allergic to staples and had an awful time after open heart surgery....don't have a clue what they will be able to use for knee surgery when I have it.  Wouldn't it be nice if they could use the duraglue to just hold everything shut...knees included ? Take care and check back in, Dee

HI Katherine-- I was VERY itchy where the sticky part of the steri strip was...I did not develop blisters or anything but I was itchy beyond belief!  I could be allergic...not sure.  I didn't have any itchiness other than where the sticky portion touched my skin. Good luck...  Susan

I recently had to get the gallbladder out so I could get like the lapband done...which iI will be getting done in 2 weeks. But I  too have had a bad reaction to the strips. So when I get the lapband done I hope there is something else. I took mine off!
