hibiclens soap? Did anyone use it before surgery?

I have to leave in 8.5 hours for the hospital.  I'm suppose to take two bathes using hibiclens soap.  For those of you who have never heard of it (like me until I was told to go buy it)  it is an antiseptic/antimicrobial cleanser.  Used to prep skin before surgery to reduce risks of infection. Anyway...  I know I should have asked this before now with the doctors office but didn't have the foresight,  Can I use this all over my body?  It says on the bottle to not use in genital area and to make sure to not get into your eyes, ears or mouth. My written instructions from the doctors office are to take two baths, one the night before surgery and one the morning of and to pay special attention to the area from groin to neck.   I asked a GF that is a physical therapist... closest friend to a nurse...lol.  And she said she's heard that people are asked to bathe from top to bottom with hibiclens.  Even washing their hair in it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Let me know how you used it.  I'll wing it if nothing else.   what did you all do with your hair?  Mine is actually long now.  I should put a new pic up to show you all.  I'm thinking ponytail???? Thanks all.

I used it, I was asked not to use it in my hair or on my face. I was also told not to use it on my groin area. I guess it worked because I had no rashes or skin infections following surgery.  It does have that antiseptic odor but since I was told not to use deoderant I was glad of it. It does not suds up a lot but is more like the consistancy of a glycerin type soap. Good Luck with your surgery. Remember to rest and stay hydrated both tonight and after surgery.

My Dr has you wash just the abdominal area three times a day for three days before surgery.

I couldn't find Hibiclens soap, but the other alternative is Dial Antibacterial Soap.  It's cheaper and you can use it afterwards.  Good luck with everything.

I had my Lap band at Georgetown hospital and they want all their surgery pts. to bath with hibiclens the day before and the day of surgery.  I had trouble finding it and finally found it at  RIte-Aid pharmacy about a week before I had surgery.  I was told not to wash my hair with it and that was all.   I didn't get any infection at my sites and I even used it on my abdomen when I came home from the hospital the first 2 -3 times I showered.  I figured it couldn't hurt and it cost almost $10.00, for a small bottle of that stuff.   Also remember, the stuff doesn't lather very much, no matter how hard you try to get it to. Good luck with your surgery.

My dr. required Dial soap...that was it.  Not tough to do, because I use Dial all the time and have for years and years. I hope your beautiful hair stays intact.  I have lost a lot of my nice thick hair and it makes me sick, and I took in lots of protein too.  It was the only bummer of this surgery. Dee

I used hibiclins just on my stomach for  a week before surgery. It stinks really bad, but I guess it is used to prevent infections. Good Luck on your surgery!

Yep Hibiclens was bought for about $10.00 at Walgreens after searching at Walmart , Target only to go for my first fill and there was a grab basket of individual ounces of Hibiclens aggggh. Yes it stunk but no infections here either.  good luck Becca
