Beth...I am so glad to hear that the surgery went well and that he is in good spirits. You've been on my mind since you told us about him having to have the surgery. It is going to be an adjustment...and I empathize with that aching you feel for him. My uncle had his leg amputated just below the knee a few years ago. He wears a prosthesis (sp?) and gets around well now. I'll keep him in my prayers...and you too!
Much love,
Becky

Thanks for posting Beth! Ive had you guys on my mind all day. Im glad he has done so well. I know it was a worry for everyone. He is a good man if he worked for Nissan, tell him I said my Nissan Pathfinder has been the BEST car I have ever owned and it HAS! Ive been driving it for 12 years now and I hate the thought of getting another one but I need too, for this new job. Over 300,000 miles and STLL going strong.
Ya'll are still in my prayers, he is gonna be okay it is just going to take time. Right now, he is mourning the loss of his limb, he will adjust and so will everyone else. Depression is common and rightfully so, who wouldn't be depressed so soon post op. Hang in there! it will get better, he already is heading that way by not having to go to ICU, what a blessing that is!
Love,
Sandy

Congratulations, and watch out! You are in for a wild ride!! May you be so blessed to have a complication free journey as I have had. It certainly has been a wonderful ride and nothing at all as I expected it to be, lots better!
Blessings,
Sandy

I meant "phantom pains"...the sensation that his limb is still there and hurts since it has been gone.

Hey everyone,
My father in law made it through surgery great. They did a below the knee amputation, midway through his calf. He did remarkably well..they didn't have to put him in ICU, they put him in IMC which is a step down from ICU. He was in excellent spirits both before and after the surgery. He said after it was over with that it hurt and it felt like his foot was still there. Well I knew he would have that sensation "phatom pains". It's really strange though. I have taken care of a lot of people who have had amputations but it just seems unbelievable that it is him and that he lost his foot. I just feel so sorry for him. He is not the strong man that he once was and it hurts my soul for him. This man worked 30 years as an Auto technician for Nissan and worked in his shop at home making extra money. He is so weak and tired now...but his spirit is good and he says he wants to be around to see his great grandchildren. Whether he will or not it's great that he is so positive. I didn't mean to drag on yall...I just wanted to update you'll on how he is doing. I hope to be back on the board in full body soon.
Love yall,
Beth
