Topic: RE: Worried about Joni
It's probably gas. I thought I'd be in severe pain from the surgery. You know, having my insides rearranged, the stitches. But my only pain was from the gas and it was horrible. Beyond words, actually. My first waking moment I was screaming from pain and it was in my left shoulder. My mom stayed at the hospital all night hitting that morphine pump every six minutes so I would stay knocked out. And it didn't let up for almost 2 weeks after surgery, and I was walking every day. Tell her to try a heating pad and sleeping in a recliner. That was the only things that helped me.
Keeping my fingers crossed and praying that all will go well with your resubmittal.
Love ya,
Gisela
Topic: RE: It could be worse
Hi Kim,
Any of your fellow employees around the panhandle of FL area? We are thinking of opening our home to some of the evacuees. My husband is scared of getting robbed, but we have two extra bedrooms that are only used 4 days a month (stepkids). It's just been heavy on my heart and I don't really know how else to help. Short on cash, if you know what I mean? Man, I just went to the orthodontist today and got bad and worse news. To start my treatment to alleviate my TMJ it's gonna cost almost $5000, but I got an approved medical loan at 9.9% for 48 months. The worse? He said if the conservative treatment didn't work, I was looking at going to Atlanta for reconstructive surgery. Yikes! And he said I could possibly be losing my hearing day by day due to the acuteness of my TMJ. Oh dang and double dang. Anyway, if you know of anyone that's trustworthy and in need of a place to stay, email me.

Topic: Update on Joni
Hey everyone,
I just talked to Debbie (who Joni is staying with). Joni is back at Shelby Baptist in the E.R. waiting for a CT scan of her abdomen. She went to see Dr. Stahl today and he sent her to the hospital. They are going to admit her for observation and if everything looks ok with the CT scan then they will release her. She finished the contrast for the CT scan around 3 p.m. and they told her that they would do the CT scan 2 hours later (5p.m.). I told her that I would get back in touch with her in a little while to see what was happening. She is in the holding room of the ER at Shelby, they don't have a room available in the hospital yet and Debbie said they are setting up tables at the cafeteria to begin accepting people from the New Orleans disaster at the hospital. Please keep Joni in your thoughts today and hope that everything comes back ok. Joni said it was ok to post her cell #, if anyone wants to call the number is (256) 740-1190

Hey everyone,
Joni is still having a great deal of pain. She moved up her Dr. appt. and is going to see Dr. Stahl today at 1230 p.m. I don't know if this is trapped gas or what but she says she is in excruciating pain and was thinking of going to the ER last night but didn't. What do you post ops think...could this be gas still or something else. I don't know what she should be expecting at this point. She said she just isn't able to walk like she needs to because of her mobility problems. I am hoping it is just something minor. Her incisions look fine and she doesn't appear any more swollen than when she had just had the surgery but I know she is worried and unsure of what to think is going on with her...and I haven't been there yet so I'm not sure just what is what. She said she keeps belching and it taste like rotten eggs. Any advice..please let us know.
I am headed to Dr. Sherer's office myself. They will resubmit my paperwork after today to BCBS. Please keep me in your thoughts as well as I wait for approval once again.
Thanks,
Beth

Topic: Woke up to sad news
Morning all. I woke up this morning to a news report about a friend of mine from another school. You may have already heard something about it:
Kathy Hawkins, the Daycare Director for the after school program at Mt. Carmel Elementary School, was shot on Sunday. Kathy has cleaned houses for a number of years, and apparently she was shot by a 14 year old boy who lives at the house where she was cleaning. The news said that it was an accident and that the boy had no hard feelings towards Cathy or her daughter Ashleigh.
I worked very closely with Cathy for the better part of a school year. I was there through a grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy and was evaluating, reorganizing, and making their program more efficient. Kathy was such a joy. She always had a smile and a kind word. Even when others were ugly behind my back becuase I was making them get up off their asses and do something, she always took up for me and thanked me for making things better there. She had a heart of gold and was a remarkable person.
I am just in shock this morning. What news I could find on the internet said that she will be buried in IL, where she is from later this week. I suppose the family is already gone up there.
Please pray for her family. She leaves a husband and two children (I think she had 2). I have not talked to or heard from Cathy in a couple of years. I think both of her parents are still living. Also, please pray for the kids at that school...I know for some, this is going to really be hard. See, Kathy had a way of loving these kids that everybody else couldn't stand. The troubled ones, the ones who were always in trouble...Kathy loved them, and they loved her...dearly.
It is a loss to that community and I will miss her too.
Thanks,
Becky
Topic: RE: I'M BACK!
I'm so glad to see you back and posting! I have been wondering about you. By the way, when you called the hospital to check on Joni the day of her surgery, I was the one wondering which hospital you were at! My family is from Anniston and I was going to come visit you! I guess with the morphine, you didn't know who I was or maybe the name just didn't ring a bell. Oh well, I'm glad you're back home!
