It can be a quick process or a long drawn out one. It all depends on your insurance and your surgeon. It took me 5 months from start to fini**** took a friend who has the same insurance I do, just a different surgeon about 5 weeks from start to finish for her, which to me was so unfair but it just goes to show, the surgeon you choose can make all the difference.

Hey Becky -- I read your profile this morning -- you are starting out exactly where I was!!! You're an inch taller, but the starting BMI is identical (I started out with a 43 BMI at 291 lbs.)
Since you are in Madison, Alabama -- I am assuming you are considering Facundus (he was my surgeon and I HIGHLY recommend him -- he's a little "anal" and "arrogant" -- but he's very methodical and meticulous -- in other words -- I LOVED him!)
I will be 2 years out in 2 months -- been "at goal" since month 15 (with a total loss of 142 lbs.) and have stabilized at a 22 BMI (152-157 lbs.)
I guess what I am saying is -- if you do not have an "angel" to be there for you every step of the way -- I would like to volunteer! Your path is so very close to my own!!

Topic: IP/"ID Tag" Super-Cools!
Been playing with the system and viewing message threads, profiles, and "search" functions of previous posts... did you guys know that OH embeds your "IP" (actually, it's not the IP per se, but an "ID Tag") in each of these sources!?!?!
Let me explain this function -- OH "masks" each members IP Address (not only on the message board posts but e-mail replies through the system and what-not) - but it also TAGS each IP with a specific "ID Tag" unique only to an IP address. In otherwords -- an "ID Tag" is associated with an "IP Address" - NOT a member profile. If a specific IP has more than one profile associated with it -- they all SHARE the same "ID Tag." Pretty cool, huh?
Not only did I find this info interesting... I found it to be very enlightening! I've been able to match an ID Tag and an IP Address for a couple of things (i.e., the mystery email and a mystery guest!) thanks to OH and all of the forwarded "private" emails with embedded IP Addys! Don't you just LOVE modern technology?!
Play nice little children... "big sister" is watching!

Jaycee,
What happened with your primary doctor that was going to take care of everything for you? Why is he not helping you out now?
With Medicare or Medicaid, I have heard over & over again how easy is it to get the surgery. Dr.DeWitt in B'ham DOES accept those. I also have been told that Dr.Williams in Montgomery does also. With having BC/BS as secondary that should help too.
We are here for support for anyone. Get in on a chat with us and we will help you out all we can. Chatting with peers HELPS! It is sometimes your only strength.
Have you had a physc evaluation for THIS surgery yet? If you are cleared, even being treated, they will do the surgery. Clearance is all you need, not being released, if it is not severe.
The Dr.'s that you mentioned are one & the same; Dr.Jorge DeLaTorre.
Talk to someone that is informed, before you give up on your quest for WLS. There is help out there.
Lindy
P.S. THROW OUT THE COOKIE DOUGH- it tasted BAD!

I have updated my profile and added some more information. If you still have questions, I will try to answer them.
And, Nil, no one did tell me to leave the group--you are right. It is just that I could tell from the posts that the group had found a place where they could be honest and a group where everyone seemed to have bonded. I did not want to feel I had added confusion to the mix and I would rather leave than do that.
ALSO, I still have that damn frozen cookie dough in the house.
If anyone knows a doctor that accepts Medicare, please let me know.
Jaycee

Topic: RE: WLS
I totally understand. I had been told in November that due to co-morbidities that they could get the surgery for me sooner than most. However, the insurance companies added all the new requirements/delays about the same time I went to the doctor, so I have been jumping through hoops with no guarantee of success.
You are not alone. There are some people who have been dealing with this for much longer than me. All I know is that I need this surgery to save my life. And I cannot give up. Although it does seems impossible, insurmountable, etc.
My insurance is going to fight me on this. My BMI is over 50. I weigh 365 lbs. and I cannot survive without this surgery.
Hang in there and stay with us. We are all in this together.
Hugs,
Joni
