Hey everyone, My outdoor dogs tend to get fly bites on their ears. I have spent money on a lot of stuff...layered their pen with lime and hay and kept them out, ect. My girl dogs ears are awful...beefy red sores on both. I sprayed some antibiotic spray on them but they are terrible. Anyone experienced this and have an idea that worked. Oh...I also used Flys OFF from the Pet supply store. Thanks, Beth

A natural remedy is: 1 oz citronella oil, 1 cup Cider Vinegar, 1 cup Water, 1 basil leaf, 1 bay leaf Some dogs ( and people) may be allergic to citronella oil. Before using the citronella in your fly repellent, test it on a small part of your dog's skin. If your dog has a reaction to the citronella you should use two tablespoons of lemon scented dish detergent instead. Putting citronella oil around the pen might help too. I don't know any tried and true remedies, but would probably ask the veterinarian to be sure. Keeping them inside during the day helps too, but that's not always something you can do. Damned flies...

Hey girl, I cleaned her ears with some antibacterial spray for dog's ears and I applied some calmoseptine ointment. I remembered that a while back I did this with a dog and it healed. I really hope they heal. I am going to do this every day to get my big baby well... I can't keep my big doggy in the house...I wish I could though. I am going to do the citronella oil around the pen...that sounds great. Thanks, Beth

Beth, I just talked to Pam about this (she works in agriculture/ chemical sales)....she said the best thing to do is call your county co-op and they can recommend products for treating and preventing. She also said that this is primarily a problem around cattle. Do you have cow's around your house? If you do, you will need to tell the co-op people that. Hope this helps! Kim

Hey Kim, Thanks for the reply. I do not have any cattle...I wish I did, I'd sell them...LOL I will try calling the county co op also and see if they have any suggestions. I can't stand my baby's ears to have fly bites. Thanks, Beth P.S. I still need to get your copy of the pics we made at 2 Peso's to you. I had them printed the day we had lunch. I am going to the post office tomorrow if you'd like your copies...
