@CherokeePride, I have read your post and have to respond because I keep seeing this misinformation on various posts about the Obamacare plan. #1- I took out a BCBS policy FROM the Healthcare Marketplace, qualified for both the subsidy and the tax credit which GREATLY reduced my monthly premium from over $300.00 a month down to just over $100.00 a month and you definitely should have qualified for that.
#2 - my BCBS policy definitely DOES cover WLS but my percentage of coverage is different from others I have seen posted.
You need to actually call the companies and would have started by calling the Healthcare Marketplace as you were beginning to start your application.
I wish you would have known this and dug into it further. Please don't give up hope, keep working at it.
Thank you for this helpful post. With regard to your second point, I stand corrected. It (no coverage for WLS via ACA Marketplace plans) is true for my state and it was represented to me as true across the board. Your positive experience proves that there's all the more reason for the OP to persevere, though.
So I have recently been given the green light to have my VSG surgery with Dr. Aceves in Mexico...a doctor that I have been hearing a lot of positive things about. However, I am a self pay. His office supposedly works with fundmydr and medloanfinance. I have also heard good things about care credit. Have ANY of you actually used these people? I'm not getting much back when I research them, even in other other websites and the forums here.
PLLLEASE! Any advice would be great. This is one of the last hurdles...
Our IT Team is working on adding the surgery procedure and surgery date so it appears on members' posts. Our IT Team will release it as soon as possible.
We want to thank all of you that let us know how important this is to our OH community.

Have you had any luck with this? I have the band and next week see a different surgeon for revision. I took out a BCBS policy partially for this.
Ofelia, have you had your surgery yet? If not, are you still going with the Band?
Thank you! I hope everything stays in place for you and no more bumps in the road. Please keep me posted.
I bought a plan on the Healthcare Marketplace, made sure it covered WLS and it covers 50%. Not as much as I want but they DO cover it. But I also called BCBS before purchasing a plan to make sure it would be covered. This is in Michigan, would they deny in some states and not others just because it is from the Marketplace?
I started the process in February and am having my surgery on May 8. It would have been April 8, but my vitamin D level was terribly low, so I did a month on Vit D3 and had to do a redraw. My labs are good, and I now have my surgery date! Goodluck!!
I realize all policies are different but with regards to your post, I have BCBS and in asking if they cover the sleeve, found out that they do not cover the sleeve but they DO cover the "Longitudinal Sleeve Gastrectomy". I double checked to be sure we were talking about the same thing with the agent and then got the definition online. The Longitudinal Sleeve IS the Vertical Sleeve.
Longitude + up and down = vertical.
Good Luck!
