The other option is to get into one of the high-risk pools being set up as part of the health care reform. They are specifically for people who cannot get private insurance due to pre-existing conditions.

The first thing I would do would be to see if there is a competent in-network doctor that you can use and then have your records transferred. That would be the best option so that you are not stuck with all of the additional charges. Otherwise, I would contact your surgeon's office and ask a couple of questions - if they have any plan on becoming a network provider for this insurance and if they can recommend financing options.

Good luck!

It doesn't sound normal to me.  I have Aetna insurnace and needed pre-authorization and insurnace approval before my surgery could be scheduled.

Hi everyone.  Maria in Chicago here...  Well my third request for RYN is now in Aetna's hand.  I was denied in March, and have now completed a six month program with my surgeons office...  with an internal med doc that runs their weight loss program.

As I said, I was denied in March and also once in 2007, so i am hoping that this will be the third time is a charm situation!

I am really hopeful, but I was last time too, and really got my spirit crushed.

I have already committed to myslef that I will appeal if they deny...  but now I am just nervous!

Thanks for listening!

Topic: RE: ?Question about Insurance?
The issue that I have heard of is more whether or not obesity related surgery is approved on his plan.  Once you have the insurance, there typically is not a length of time you have to be on it to have a procedure.

Good luck!

I recently had to change my insurance from a medicare supplemental insurace (Humana PFFS to Humana PPO)so now instead of paying 20% of the surgery i now have to pay over 30%, because Dr V is now out of network and the hospital (presbyterian) is also out of network, I'm putting this info out because I don't know what to do now, because financially I may not be able to have the surgery. So far I have put so much time energy and Money into all the pre opt classes and appointments, and now it seems as if i have hit a brick wall. If anyone can advise me on what to do if they have been in this type of situation, maybe advice on another type of insurance I could get to cover the gaps that medicare and humana doesn't cover or a place that makes loans for bariatric surgeries or any type of advice or sugestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
