I'm afraid I am of no help in this situation, but I wanted to reach out and wish you luck.  There has got to be a way for you to do this.  Make sure you look at all your options.  Good luck!

Topic: Have no insurance... HELP

Hello everyone, I live in TX and I have no insurance and can't get insurance because of my weight. I don't work because I am a full time student. I have BMI around 54 (last I checked) and I am wanting to have WLS. Other than self pay are there any options out there for me? I was told I could try and get on disability but I have no clue how to go about doing that. I was also told to go to Mexico because it would be a lot cheaper and its just as safe as having it done in the US.

I am going to school to become a teacher and would love to have the surgery before I go into student teaching and residency. I don't want any of the TX school districts looking at my weight and come to the conclusion that I wouldn't be able to keep up with my students.

Any help or info would be great....

Billie Jean

Topic: RE: Keep Getting Denials for Insurance
If you are self employed, try getting insurance as a company. Most insurance companies will have a minimum number of employees. When my husband and I ran our own business, we stated we had two employees and we were able to get insurance through Kaiser. It is expensive though, but you don't have to do a health history or anything if you are a business.

Topic: RE: UHC- HELP!?

I have UHC and do not have a required non-surgical weight loss period. You might want to post this out on the main forum to see what others say. I am sure this concern is global, not just relevant to folks with UHC.

I tried with Texas State Insurance and they wanted me to get a copy of a denial letter from Blue Cross Blue Shield, but i've been waiting on BCBS to send me that letter for 3 months.

Oh, I understand now - you have applied to get medical insurance, and you have been denied the actual insurance because of your weight.  I thought you were denied the surgery by an insurance company you already have.  My mistake, and I apologize.

I don't really know what to say.  I don't know how to get an insurance company to cover you.  The WLS's office likely wouldn't be able to help you out with this inquiry.  I'm sorry.  I would contact your state's department of insurance and see if they have any information they can give you.

I wish you luck.
