Insurance process question
I'm trying to start getting my ducks in a row so that when I change insurance coverage in January (I know, it seems sooo far away!) and I'm confused on the 'process' of getting ins. approval. Is the first step to have my pcp send in a request for pre-authorization? Or am I supposed to find a surgeon and have psych/nut tests first? How do I get my ins to cover a surgeon consult if I haven't even been approved for the surgery? Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Dear Kelly:
First off.....find out what the new insurance's requirements are. Use the next 7 months to fulfill those requirements.
Also use this time to research surgeon's in your area and attend their support groups to get a feel for them and their patients.
I'm sure you will need a referral letter from your pcp and chosen surgeon.
My insurance covered the consultation with my surgeon. Once you have chosen a surgeon, their office will help you "get your ducks in a row".
I hope this helps a little. I have been working on this since Feburary of 2005, and am hoping for surgery in January of 2007.
Wishing you a wonderful day....
Dawn
