HELP!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone! I just have a question, my husband got his policy book today with humana and the exclusion states as follows:::: any treatment for the purpose of obesity of reducing obesity, or any use of obesity reduction procedures to treat sickness or bodily injury caused by obesity, including but not limited to surgical procedures.
This is through Humana, Does anyone know what this means? Is this a direct exclusion?
Help,
Ruthann j.
I have humana hmo i have been fighting them for over a year and a half now mine just say any treatment to reduce obesity not limited to surgical procedures. I was told that it was a direct exclusion. So since my employer is self funded I am going through my employer with an internal appeal . I have been denied 3 times trying to fight this exclusion. So good luck. Make sure you write down who you spoke with and what time and date and what you were told.
Ruthann,
Sorry to say, but yes, it does sound like an exclusion. My policy states something similar but then says except in the case of "morbid obesity." That is the situation most of us find ourselves in so mine will cove once I am done jumping through there hoops.
Does your husband have a choice of medical plans? Perhaps he can change at his next open enrollment. If there is a choice you may want to get copies of the benefits booklets prior to the enrollment period to see if any of them provide coverage.
Good luck,
Ronna
