live in a bariatric surgeon Desert!!! The only Surgeon here has been ordered to stop the surgery due to the hospital being un equipped to handle the after care. So, I looked out side the state. There is only one Doctor my insurance would cover... Dr. Freeza in Texas. I didn't get a good feeling about this doctor and wanted a second opinion. Then my HMO, the Lovelace Health Plan, changed their coverage. No longer covering the surgery. Now I am battling the insurance and trying to find a good doctor... Has anyone else in NM had success? What employers offer good insurance to cover the procedure? Help... I have several health problems caused by my weight and am becoming desperate... Richard

I know it may cost but have you tried getting an attorney? I'm in the begining phase of this. If you want to self pay. There is a doctor in Michigan that is the cheapest and has good reviews. The total package for the surgery, hospital stay, and 2 years follow up is 11,000. I know it sounds like a lot, but at least its an option

Would you consider surgery in Mexico by self-pay? Your travel expenses wouldn't be much.

There's a whole section of this site devoted to foreign doctors called "South of the Border".
