BCBS of AL! has anyone been approved lately?
hi, i'm corrie laine and i am new to the posts. as of 7-05 i have completed my 6 month doc. advised diet and i have sent all of my records to dr. dewitt's office. tiffany, who handles the insurance, is currently in the process of sending my info to BCBS for approval. i guess right now i am just so nervous, anxious, and alot of other things. i would love to her from others in alabama who have recently been approved or who are waiting like me...thanks!
I was approved and had surgery in April 05. I have state employees BCBS of AL, group number 1300. This BCBS plan has had a high success rate in getting approved quickly. There are many different BCBS of AL plans and packages, depending on which plan your employer chose for the employees.
My plan would cover if deemed medical necessary. My plan did not require a 6 month diet history but fortunately I had been seeing my pcp for weight loss issues , on a regular month to month basis, for the last 2 years anyway and was current, at the time I sent in my paperwork. This diet history was sent in along with the other consultations.
I was approved in 12 working days, my co worker was approved in 3 working days, she did not send in ANY diet history. We used different surgeons and I had surgery April 4 05, she had surgery April 11 05. Another co worker told me last week, she went for a consultation and was told, BCBS of AL, group number 1300, now requires you pay 50% of the cost, up front, to the surgeon and the hospital. As of Jan 1 06, they will no longer cover WLS. I do not know how accurate this hearsay is. BCBS of AL has not mailed me anything on changes in my policy, to date. Total cost of my surgery was almost 36,000.00, 4 nights in hospital with no complications. BCBS of AL paid ALL, except $180.00.
If it is any consolation, my co worker used Dr. DeWitt, the office knows how to handle BCBS and they will not steer you wrong, if they feel you will be approved, you have a good chance, so hang in there!
Best of Luck!
Sandy
