Timing on working on Insurance

I'm confused. First of all, my insurance has an exclusion that I've decided to hire Gary Viscio (dont think I have a choice) to fight for me. Here's my question...I've applied for surgery at Ohio State in Columbus Ohio and they've scheduled me for my sleep test, psyc, and nutricianist eval. I've already seen my PCP for a referral and bloodwork. Eventhough OSU has asked me to start their testing, they've told me that their committee hasnt officially accepted my request for surgery as yet. If I'm going to have the surgery, I'd like to have Gary working on getting my insurance approved at the same time I'm jumping through OSU's hoops so when I'm approved for surgery, I can set up a date for surgery right away and not have to be at square one with my insurance. BUT...if OSU doesnt feel I'm "ready for surgery" and declines me, I've spent money with a lawyer and still going nowhere. What should I do to keep the ball rolling?
