I am unsure what do do next. When I first contacted humana the rep I spoke to said if I met certain criteria they would cover WLS. But I decided to double check since I noticed in my paper work it says under Limitations and Exclusions "Any treatment to reduce obesity including, but not limited to, surgical procedures" Well this time the first person said it will not be covered. I told her I had spoken to another rep who said that it would be covered. She then trasfered me to a nurse who is on the claims review board. The nurse I spoke to said due to this exclusion there is no way they will cover WLS. She did say that I can have my job take out a ryder on my policy so that humana will cover it. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated. I dont know about a rider or how much it will cost???

I have the same insurance with the same exclusion, I have been denied 07/04 then there was a grievance meeting I was denied again. So I went to the insurance commissioner to fight it, The word obesity stands for someone with a bmi of 35. I have a bmi of 72.6 my weight at this time is 423. I have the following comorbities, severe sleep apnea, gerd, restrictive lung diease, chronic upper and back pain degenerate joint diease in the hips and knees. Stress incontinine, valve problems from the drug phen phen. The list goes on.I have been fighting humana for the last year. I am waiting any day for the insurance commissioner to let me know if they are going to approve it. I was told by different reps for humana as long as medcially necessary then they would approved. I just wish you luck, Humana is the worst insurance company I have every encountered. no one at the company has trained the same, everyone will give you a different answer , so make sure you write down who you spoke with and what time you spoke to them and the date. Good luck. If you have any questions or if the insurance commmissioner approves me I can tell you what i did to get approved. feel free to email me with any questions.
