United Healthcare Options PPO Exclusion

I had called a benefits specialist today to check on coverage for WLS and was told that my employer's policy excludes treatment for a diagnosis of morbid obesity, but that I could appeal this; however, the only time the specialist had ever seen this surgery approved was when the insured had developed diabetes, and not for any other comorbid conditions. I do not have diabetes yet, but I do have hypothyroid, reflux, high cholesterol, borderline hypertension, and sleep apnea. Do I have any other options?

Yvette, The best thing you can do is go ahead and submit and see if they approve you. If you have too, try contacting one of the obesity lawyer's to help you intervene early. I recommend Gary Viscio. He's a great guy! http://www.obesitylawyers.com Fight the good fight and don't ever give up! Gina

Thank you Gina, I have been in contact with Gary, and have received an information packet from him and will definitely be fighting this exclusion! Thank you for the encouraging words!
