Insurance questions!!!!
Addtionally, it depends on how your physician documents your chart, as to whether or not your insurance company approves those visits as weight loss visits.
They are looking for specific notation by the doctor regarding your calorie intake, exercise, nutrition counseling, and behavioral modification changes. Make it clear to your doctor that all of these elements must be documented on your monthly visit.
Unfortunately my doctor did not document my chart well at all (I know...I have read the entire record). He would just say "patient congratulated on weight loss", "patient intentionally lost 30lbs", "patient not taking any OTC weight-loss pills", etc. I can't believe that is all he said because we DISCUSSED my diet and exercise everytime I was there. Unfortunately I I was still convinced that if I wanted to lose weight that I could do it on my own...so I didn't know to have him document any specific things in the chart. And at the time, the insurance company I had did not require any specific doctor-supervised weight programs (I had looked into the coverage b/c my doctor had recommended surgery). My company changed insurance companies when we bought ourselves back from our parent company.
Even worse, the doctor is gone now...in California (halfway across the country from me). I thought about looking him up and asking him to please finish dictating my chart so I can get my surgery.
