Anyone have insurance just aprove $15k?

We have BCBS(USAIRWAYS) and they told me they only insure for 15k whether you have complications or not. Well the surgery is 30k and I'm so devasted about this!

Hi Sharon! Have you checked around with different surgeons/hospitals? Some may have different rates depending on the situation (i.e. type of insurance, in network vs out of network, self pay, etc). And as far as I understand, if your surgeon is a BCBS participating provider, I believe they have to accept the payment from the insurance co as payment in full and you would only have to pay whatever your deductible or copay amount was. Also, some procedures are less expensive than others. I know when it was explained to me at my hospital of choice, that the lapband for example, for a self pay was $14,000 whereas an RNY for self pay was $24,000, so $10,000 is a big difference between the cost of the 2 procedures. At least your insurance covers something, mine (BCBS of TN) has an exclusion. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck. Tammy
