I just have a quick question thought maybe there was someone out here who might be able to answer it.. When reading the exclusinos of an insurance policy and it says.. Are incurred for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons, such as weight modification or surgical treatment of obesity. Does that include morbid obesity as well?? Thought maybe someone had been through this knowing all the insurance companies that have changed their policies at the beginning of the year.. Thanks in advance.. Tracie

Tracie, They're clearly trying to use it as a "catch-all", so in turn you would argue not only obesity and morbid obesity, but the fact that this is not cosmetic or aesthetic but is health related, and an attempt to treat and/or cure your co-morbities. Good luck Gary Viscio obesitylawyers.com

Hi Tracie, To answer your question, even though it says no surgery for cosmetic and etc. The insurance company will not pay for gastric bypass surgery. They all have this as an cosmetic surgery in their policy. Only if you have a group plan with your employer is the only way you will be cover for this surgery. I had united healthcare insurance and they will not pay for an indiviual plan it must be on a group. They don't care if it is medically necessary. As of 2005 the insurance company are VERY strick now. I had the same problem. I must find a job that offer full benefit from one of the company that pays for this surgery. I know how you feel and my heart goes out to you. I wish you the best. Demetria Cal
