Please Help with Insurance!!! 2 Questions

I am a school teacher with insurance through my district (HealthSmart-PPO). I have been denied because of exclusion. There is a line in the plan outline that states exclusions "for services or supplies rendered to any participant for treatment of obesity, morbid obesity, or for weight reduction." Question 1: Do I have any recourse to this? Question 2: Should I change insurance companies? I'm not really tied to the one with my school district, but what would I change to? Does anyone know of a company that would approve bypass surgery on an individual insurance plan? I so desperately want this surgery! Any advice would be helpful! Being a school teacher, I would like to have the surgery over the summer. Not much time left! Thanks so much for listening!
