Hi there. Have any of you in Texas had any luck with Medicade paying for this surgery? My husband and I are very desparate to get this help. My husband is also on Medicare. He has C O P D, and has been told the band would be better for him and weight lose would help him breathe better. Please help us. Thank you Kay

My co-worker's mother got approved with a snap of a finger through medicade, so I don't know. I guess it just depends on who you go through and what your BMI and comorbidities are. Good luck, though.

Medicaid in most states pays for the surgery as long as you meet their requirements which is usually a BMI of 40 with comorbilities, i.e., hypertention, arthritis, hyperlipidemia, hip/joint problems, heart problems, etc. (usually they want 2 comorbilities especially if your BMI is between 35 and 40. Call your Medicaid customer service center or look at their website. In Alabama, they pay for it with a BMI of 40 and 2 comorbilities. Another option is your state vocational rehabilitation service. Many times they will pay for a medical procedure that would/could help you return to the work force. Good Luck. Alli in Alabama
