I would like to know from several how long it acctually took to get approval if you had to appeal your insurance co denial. I am sure I am going to get denied the first time. Help.

Good question that I don't think anyone can answer. Every case and every insurance company is different. My appeal has been out a couple weeks and I just got a letter like they just received it, saying that it would be 30 days. But that doesn't mean it will be approved. I could easily go through two more appeals. I hate this waiting. I've put my life on hold because I have no idea when I may be going to surgery. Good Luck Cathy

Cathy, I was also rejected for lap band as investigational. I have thought a bit of switching surgeries, but I really don't want to. I was told my appeal hearing would be sometime within the next 3 weeks, but don't know how long the insurance company gets to respond after that. I work in a school, and had really wanted to have surgery over Spring Break. Now I don't know if I should wait until summer, or just go ahead and (give up and) self pay. Please let me know how your process is going. I know the frustration!! Good Luck, Donna C

Donna, Is this your first appeal? I'm not even sure how many I can have before going to an outside review. I know what you mean about scheduling frustration. I'm a photographer. If I have to wait until June, I'll have bunches of high school seniors that'll have to find another photographer. That would really mess up my reputation. I'm hoping that somewhere out there is a photography student that would work for real cheap and temporarily. At least with the lapband the healing process is a lot quicker. cathy
