I went to the pulmonologist today. He put me on prilosec twice a day, because he wanted to fix the reflux so my lungs would be in good shape for the surgery, and I wouldn't have respiratory complications. What does the insurance company do????? Refused to allow me to have the whole months prescription, insisted that the pharmacy only sell me 1/2 a months medicine ............... (So what did they do, go out and life insurance on me to pay for the WLS and cross their fingers that they will be able to collect or something! ) It makes absolutely no sense for them to try to cut the time that I take medicine to stop reflux from furthur damaging my lungs............. I have 6 weeks before surgery. I get 2 weeks worth of prilosec. I am supposed to be on prilosec 24/7. Theyn held back on all my prilosec before that is why I have been having terrible reflux, and burning my lungs. Fat lot of good it did them, the Dr. put me on 7 (seven) prescriptions.......... one of them cost me $120. (Insurance paid $40). I have to go back in 3 weeks and he scheduled me for sleep study ....... which I don't think they were originally going to do.

Is there another similar med that the insurance WILL pay for? Sometimes too, your doc can write a letter to the ins. co. stating why you need to be on the med longer or you need more of it. I agree, they are whacky.

I agree with Kristey. Get your Doctor to call the insurance company and explain that you MUST have the meds. in order to be in tip top shape for your WLS. If you don't speak up for yourself nobody else will and believe me I can tell you from exprience that people will shi$% all over you when it comes to you wanting WLS. Don't let those Doctors or insurance company get you down. FIGHT!! as you have come to far. I get so when I read where people want to play with our health. Donna
