Get Insur. to pay AFTER WLS???

Our insurance policy has a "vague" exclusion for WLS, which I am going to fight (with the help of a lawyer, who has already agreed to take my case). I'd really like to self-pay so I can get the surgery much sooner, while trying to get the insurance co. to pay for it. My question is: is it harder to get an insurance company to pay for WLS if it's already been done? I am thinking it would be, since they figure you've already done it, so you obviously can pay yourself, and the rush to get it is gone. Elizabeth

Getting them to pay is normally the same. They may fight it harder, but either way paying to them is paying. Just keep in mind they will only pay what their rates are and not what you paid the doctor if it is more, and also if you have complications, god forbid, most plans will refuse to pay for those if they know it is in regard to WLS. Good luck in your fight. Gary
