United Healthcare venting

I have been a member of OH.com for almost a year, however, last night, I stumbled upon this Insurance Help Forum. I have UCH and have been denied because of a written exclusion. It is just so unfair. I was suprised to see, as I read the posts back as far as march last year and UCH seems to the the thorn in a bunch of people's sides. Again, it is unfair. I hope we can all prevail and beat them. When will the insurance companies get it through their head that this is only helping them in the long run too!

Hi Phyllis, I know what you mean. I have all but given up on United Healthcare. I am hoping to soon have another job that has different insurance. I can't afford to self pay.

It's not UHC, it's your employer. They choose what coverage to offer their employees. I had my WLS, UHC paid, because my plan covered it.

I get that it is the employer, however the trend that I am seeing on this website is that UHC is the cause. They offer a deal the employer can't refuse in order not to cover WLS and other things. There was about 200 items on my exclusion list.

UHC charges your employer an "Administrative Services Only" fee for being the claims processor. It doesn't change depending on the exclusions. They do however, council the employer on what the trends in claims are, and how the employer can save their own money by excluding certain treatments, diseases, meds, etc. When your employer's renewal date is coming, they get all kinds of reports showing where there money went the year before. It's broken down by age, sex, and diagnosis.
