I was denied because it stated not medically n ecessary?? I have a BMI of 36, with depression and degenerative disc disease. How do I convince the insurance company that these co morbs should qualify me for gastric bypass. They are acting like these are not serious enough to qualify? thanks

Just a suggestion: Have you gone to an endocrinologist to get bloodwork done? Not until I did that did I know that I had PCOS, as well as metabolic syndrome. (Co morbs) Also, having a sleep study made me aware that I had sleep apnea. If you haven't taken these steps, please do so-it can only help your case. Good luck! Aly

You go and have EVERYTHING checked out. That's what I did and I was shocked to find out how many medical problems I actually had. Donna

I agree!!!!! TAKE CHARGE!!! The #1 thing you can do is go have a physical every year! Remember doctors aren't paid to just run random tests so be prepared for this by taking a notebook along with your concerns i.e. snoring, dizzy spells, black outs, morning headaches, heavy periods or maybe even none at all and even your family health hisotry. Write it all down for a few weeks and go for your physical. I have found this tactic works really well and lets your doctors know that you are serious about your health and wellbeing. Don't forget to be persistant if you necessary, for 3 years I was told that I was gaining weight and having random periods because I took prozac. Well after switching to a clinic that specializes only in womens health in 48 hours I found out that I was at the time borderline type 2 and had PCOS. They worked me over with labs and then with me to find a suitable treatment. By keeping tabs I have learned about health conditions that would not have even been looked for because of my mere 25 years on the planet. For example, in 2003 I learned that I had Sleep Apnea, 2004 type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol (tri's = 457) and likely carpal tunnel. THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS BE PROACTIVE, NOT REACTIVE!!!!!!!!!
