pre cert the same as pre authorization?

Hi, does anyone know if precertification is the same as preauthorization. When an insurance company says you must precert for any hospital stays, is this the same as pre-authorization for hospital stays?

Hi Elizabeth... I work for an insurance company, and we use the terms pre-certification and pre-authorization interchangeably to mean the same thing. I'm pretty sure most companies do.
