I just got off the phone with the insurance company and they adv me that they can't cover any of my testing before the surgery as long as it's coded as obesity because there is an exclusion in my policy....my question is how do other people get this stuff covered?? I have bcbs and have never had any problems with them before now....ex: I was tested to see if I had diabetes (3-hour glucose test) but my dr coded it as obesity (unknown to me) and now they won't cover it but would have had they just coded it for what it was!!!! Any suggestions?? Thanks

Tell your PCP stop coding everything as obesity because it's causing you problems with getting it paid for by your insurance. My Doctor just coded it as needed to check for diabetes and while doing the blood work she had ALL my blood tests run. There are ways around it without coding everything as obesity. Donna

i agree with the other post about seeing if your doctor will code it as something else. i have the same problem as you do with the whole exclusion thing. it sucks big time!! it got coded differently for my psych eval and dietician and they covered it. go figure.
