BCBSAL - Question

Does anyone know how BCBSAL defines "physician supervised non-surgical method of weight reduction"? My doctor suggested I join Weigh****chers (I did and am still a member) the last time my BMI was this high (little more than two years ago) and she weighed me when I saw her after I joined, rejoicing when I lost weight, and sympathetic when it all came back. The thing is, I wonder if this is sufficient for BCBS to consider physician supervision. How is physician supervision defined?

Some insurance companies (like Cigna and Aetna) are requiring documentation in your physician's chart that you were weighed, and counseled on nutrition, exercise and behavior changes at least monthly. If your PCP sends you back to WW, you could take your food and exercise journals with you to your doctor when you go for your monthly weigh in. The chart should say that the doctor felt WW would be appropriate, but they still have to supervise you with the check ins. Fight the good fight! Roberta

I also have BCBS of Alabama, and I think that weigh****chers would work. What you could do is call the 1800 number on the back of your insurance card and ask. You will more than likely have to get a copy of your records from weigh****chers and submit that with your paper work when you doctor send it all in. I hope this helps and good luck on your journey!
