DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO STOP COVERING THE SURGERY JAN.2005? ALSO I HAVE EXCLUSION TO MY POLICY.I AM GETTING A RUN AROUND WITH UHC I CALL WANTING A BOOK OF COVERAGE AND THEY HR WOULD HAVE TO GIVE ME THAT WELL HR SAID UHC WOULD HAVE TO GET THAT FOR ME.SO I CALLED SHARED SERVICES AND THE REP FROM THERE WE CALLED UHC AND SHE WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO BOOKS.BUT SHE ASKED IF GASTRIC BYPASS WAS COVERED AND HE SAID YES IF MEDICALLY NECCESARY. SO EVERY TIME I CALL I ASK FOR A BOOK THEN GET SAME ANSWER AND ASK ABOUT COVERAGE I GET A DIFFERENT ANSWER ALMOST EVERYTIME. I GOT MY HUSBAND TO CALL WE WORK FOR SAME COMPANY AND SAME INSURANCE JUST DIFFERENT SUD NUMBER AND NO QUESTIONS ASKED THEY ARE SENDING A BOOK. OF COVERAGE. THIS IS BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, UHC is in Florida. My husband actually works there. I know that as of Jan 2005 my UHC will no longer cover WLS. It could be different for you if the company that you work for states that they will cover it. Confusing I know!! I don't have a book either..imagine that, my husband can't get one right now and he works there!! They have turned into a joke.

Your employer is responsible for providing you with a Summary Plan Description booklet. Contact HR in writing with a request, and ask for a booklet within 10 days. If you don't get it, contact the Insurance Commissioner's office and the Dept of Labor in Florida, and ask for their help in obtaining your Plan. Technically, the Insurance Commissioner's office doesn't have jurisdiction over the insurance company if you are self funded through your employer. That being said, it is my experience that they will still write a letter on your behalf, and the insurance company will respond anyway. Insurance companies want to look good for the Commissioner's office so they "appear" to be acting in "good faith." Roberta
