I am very worried that I will not insurance approval for the surgery. I have UHC Choice Plus. The surgeon that I am going to see states that his office is now "in Network" with UHC. Does anyone know what UHC requires to approve the surgery? My BMI is 43, but I don't have high blood pressure and that worries me that they won't cover it because my blood pressure is normal. Does anyone happen to know?

I live in clearwater fl, i have the exact ins. but with a small company. I was denied twice and I am now awaiting on the review board appeal. I would thoroughly look through your COC to make sure it doesnt state it in there. Ive put so much money into Co-pays, dr's visits, and administration fees and now Im denied. Im fighting it but doubt I will win. Its very frustrating and stressful. I never thought it would and could emotionally drain me as it has done. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.

I have UHC Choice Plus Open Access PPO - We have an exclusion clause in our policy- I am in the process of appeal to the effect that it is a treatement of my diabetes, hypertension, sleep apenea, COPD...take thier pick. I have a feeling that I won't win.. I am looking to MExico for self pay surgery. I will cost around $20,000.00 to have this surgery done at home. In Mexico, it will be less than $10,000. I am already checked with the surgeon here about the fills of the band and he will consent to keep a check and do the fills for me. It is ashame that we have insurance and it will pay for all that is wrong with us, but won't pay for what is contributing to the problems!!! Thanks, Pam Hartsell

I have UHC, but ours is a self-funded policy with an iron clad exlusion. First find out it you are self funded. If you are not, you stand a really good chance of having your surgery.
