Are there any secondary insurance policies available? I have BC of CA, PPO. I hope to get an answer as I have not received one on the main board nor on the California board. Thanks! Fern

Tricky question. If you are married, and your birthday falls later than your spouses, your insurance would be secondary. What specifically do you feel you need a secondary policy for? Could be tell us what you are looking for? Roberta

Thanks Roberta. First of all, no husband. I'm self-employed with a $2,500 deductible and $7,500 maximum out of pocket expense. The surgeon's office told me there would be an additional $2,000 to him for aftercare which is not billed to the insurance company because they don't pay for aftercare. This means that I'm looking at at least $9,500 out of pocket but according to the estimate from the doctor, more like $11,500. Oy! Any help would be most appreciated. BTW, you're my only response in almost a week...so mucho thankso. Fern B.

Fern, You are more than welcome for the response. I try to help when I can. Hospitals will often work with you in negotiating a lower fee. I would certainly give it a shot. Also, as far as after care, what specifically does that include? Support groups should be free. Insurance will pay for follow up visits to check your bloodwork, etc., in most cases. I would re-read your policy in that regard. If all else fails, there's always a second mortgage. That way you could write off the interest. Also, you can use the costs as medical deductions, along with your premiums. I'm not an accountant, but I would suggest you speak with one for the best way to handle it. Bottom line, this is the best money you will ever spend on yourself. Don't give it a second thought. Keep your *****s) up! Roberta
