Question for Gary
Hi Gary,
I see evryone else asking you question so Im gonna throw mine out.
My mother's surgeon says that even though my insurance(Aetna will approve the bypass) will only do the lapband for certain qualifications(none that I meet), that they should still approve it if I get my surgeon to write a letter why the lapband would be better forme than the bypass. Is this true? Or can they just say NO?
Thnaks for your time,
Natalie
They can always say no, whether they are right or not is another question. His argument would be why it is better for you to have the band, and why it is medically necessary. If you have any questions please feel free to email me, I normally try not to answer questions in public because of confidentiality reasons and the insurance carriers read these boards, that we know for sure.

Natalie,
Your mothers surgeon and PCP should carefully construct a letter explaining the views they hold, and why they feel the LAP would be better for your mother. There are risks in both procedures. as far as the insurance people reading these boards, I say SO WHAT, I think more importantly who is trolling the boards for business in the guise of "helping" remember helping should not always translate into a "nominal fee." Quite a few members have had great success doing battle with the insurance companies without additional out-of-pocket expenses. Many felt they have had no alternative but to use a lawyer, or felt they needed guidance from an attorney, or just felt that someone else would be better at fighting the battle for them. In no way am I saying they are not necessary for some, but for many they are not.
Best of luck.
She is right, and that is essentially what I have stated. I do not troll for business, and my clients and those I represent for free will tell you that.
People have either used an attorney or not, like picking a surgeon it is there choice, but I won't be belittled for taking time to answer questions. Thanks for your input
