Help with 2nd appeal-BCBS

I only have one appeal left so it needs to really count. I have an exclusion on my policy for anything dealing with weight loss but it does not say anything about morbid obesity just obesity. Has anyone written a letter like this? I'm not sure what to write in this letter. Should I write it or should my surgeon or my pcp or all of us? Thanks for any and all help. Linda

I wrote to my insurance co (BCBS AL) and had them send me a copy of their policy on bariatric surgeries. It took a couple of weeks, but now that I have that info in my hands, I feel that it will be beneficial in preparing my own appeal. Mine does exclude anything regarding weight loss, except when Morbidly Obese. There is a lot of other detail that was nice to know. But every policy is different so call yours (or email them) and ask them to send you a copy of their policy. Don't accept a verbal response...tell them you want to see the policy in writing. Take your time, and do your research thoroughly before you do this appeal. Don't get in a rush. Sandi (AL)

Linda, After this last appeal, will it then go to an independent review? this in itself may be your best bet. The denial very well may be overturned. CAREFULLY read your benefits package.

I know bc/bs of OK will not cover no matter what, I've been down that road. But there is a girl on the OK board who has bcbs of NE and it covered her surgery so hang in there.
