How long does an insurance company have to response to an appeal? Can they take as long as they want or do they have to respond within a certain period of time? Mine is going on a little over 30 days. If anybody knows anything please let me know. Thanks

My insurance personally told me it should not take longer than 30 days. I had to send in an appeal just for my consultation, after 1 week I was on the phone to them. I knew my appeal was overturned before they even sent out the letter.

You should look at your policy if it is a first apeal or in a letter they have sent you and it should say. If this is an appeal on a denied appeal or denial letter that letter should say how long they have to decide. If it is a self funded ERISA plan they have 60 days. Check your book it should tell you. Good luck Gary Viscio www.obesitylawyers.com

UHC has a 30 day internal turn around time limit for appeals.
